3 tines deployed from the cannula’s tip
Chronic pain doesn’t have to be treated with medication or surgery. Diros OWL® Trident™ Radiofrequency treatment is a minimally invasive outpatient RF procedure that can safely treat many painful conditions, such as lower back (lumbar), sacroiliac joint (pelvis), thoracic spine (middle back), cervical (neck), knee and hip joint pain. This advanced procedure uses radio frequency energy to safely target the sensory nerve causing pain.
The RF procedure allows the physician to limit the approach to a nerve in a single step very much the same as an anesthetic block of this nerve, resulting in a quicker placement, less x-ray exposure, and greatly reducing the procedure time. Once the tip reaches the nerve, 3 tines are easily deployed from the cannula’s tip. The technology allows for larger lesion to be performed (1.3 cm) on the targeted area without collateral damage allowing for faster patient recovery time with longer lasting pain relief. Larger RF lesions last longer.
Most procedures take anywhere from 20-30 minutes depending upon the treatment you need.
Since this is a minimally invasive, in-office treatment, you should be able to go home shortly after treatment. In many cases, you may drive yourself home.
Unlike surgery, the procedure doesn’t require an incision. You may feel some discomfort at the RF site for a short period, but potent numbing agents are used and taking an over-the-counter medication can help reduce the pain post procedure.
You will begin to feel pain relief after the peripheral nerves have “died back” to the spinal cord. This may occur within a few days or take four weeks depending on the length of the nerve. Some patients feel immediate relief. The results should last anywhere between 6 – 24 months. Conventional RF technology usually lasts only 3 – 9 months. The Diros OWL® Trident™ Radiofrequency procedure is much better.
Rest and recovery is recommended based on the unique needs of the patient. Generally patients can return to work and their normal everyday activities the next day.
